Ever imagined turning a politician, celebrity—or even yourself—into a quirky action figure straight out of a toy shelf? With the help of AI, you can bring that idea to life in minutes. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through creating a mock collectible action figure, complete with packaging, accessories, and a playful design aesthetic. We’ll be using ChatGPT with DALL·E and the search feature to guide the creative process.

This is the exact process I used to create the Chan Chun Sing Action Figure mockup. I’ve also created action figure mockups for Dr Chee Soon Juan, Dr Tan Cheng Bock, and Jamus Lim—each styled with their unique personalities and accessories.

Chan Chun Sing

Step 1: Decide on the Character & Theme

Choose a real-life personality, fictional character, or even a fun version of yourself. Then, identify:

  • Outfit: What iconic clothes or colors they wear
  • Pose & Expression: What they’re known for (a salute, thumbs up, etc.)
  • Accessories: Items that represent their job, lifestyle, or quirks

Example:

  • Character: Chan Chun Sing
  • Outfit: White short-sleeved shirt & white pants with PAP logo
  • Expression: Cheerful
  • Pose: Confident “Kee Chiew” gesture
  • Accessories: Casio watch, hawker stall, education briefcase

Step 2: Use ChatGPT with Search to Craft the Image Prompt

Step-by-step:

  1. Open ChatGPT and make sure the search function is enabled.
  2. Paste the following prompt into the chat (edit for different characters), but do not ask it to create an image yet:
Create an image of a collectible action figure titled "Chan Chun Sing " in a sealed plastic blister pack on a cardboard backing. The figure is posed confidently inside the transparent plastic shell, surrounded by three accessories that reflect their personality or career. The character is wearing white shirt, white pants, PAP party logo on left chest and has a cheerful expression. The packaging features a white background with bold letters at the top displaying the name "Chan Chun Sing" and the subtitle "ACTION FIGURE" beneath it and a small watermark "@attapkia" at the top right corner. The visual style is playful, minimal, and toy-like, with smooth surfaces and soft lighting that mimics the look of real plastic.
  1. Once ChatGPT returns a structured concept or visual breakdown, deselect the search tool (toggle it off).

🔁 To make figures of other characters, just change the name, outfit, expression, and accessories to match their traits!

Step 3: Generate the Image Using ChatGPT’s Built-In DALL·E

Now tell ChatGPT:

“Turn this into an image.”

ChatGPT will generate a collectible action figure image based on your original prompt. You’ll see a fun, toy-like design with accessories and custom packaging. It’s that simple!

Step 4: Share It

Once your image is ready, you can:

  • Download & Share it on Instagram, Facebook, or X
  • Add it to your blog, design portfolio, or creative pitch deck
  • Use it to start a meme series, launch collectible merch, or spice up your content marketing

Bonus Tip: Create a Toy Line

Once you’ve got the process down, batch-generate a whole lineup of figures. Try:

  • Public figures like Lee Hsien Loong, Joseph Schooling, or Sylvia Lim
  • Fictional remixes: “Hawker Hero,” “Data Analyst Barbie,” “Startup Bro Ken”
  • Custom avatars of yourself or your team for internal team bios, “About Us” pages, or swag

Final Thoughts

This isn’t just a fun side project—it’s a powerful way to tell stories visually using AI. Whether you’re a designer, marketer, educator, or just someone who loves quirky visuals, turning ideas into collectible mockups is now accessible to everyone.

Try it, remix it, and tag @attapkia if you create your own version!
